Samsung officially confirmed on Friday that it will close its manufacturing plant in Galanta. Production will be gradually phased out in several stages by May this year. However, the company’s logistics center in the village of Gáň near Galanta will continue to operate.
According to the company, the main reason for ending production is the extremely high cost of energy in Europe. Samsung also stated that the European Union’s strategic direction is weakening the competitiveness of not only Slovakia, but the entire EU, compared to Asia, the United States, and other regions.
Experts warn that the end of television production could also negatively affect subcontractors and distribution chains.
The opposition claims that the government bears political responsibility for the situation. Meanwhile, the Finance Minister Ladislav Kamenický emphasized that Slovakia is a small, export-oriented economy and therefore particularly sensitive to global developments.
According to Samsung, the gradual departure of employees is scheduled to begin at the end of June 2026.
