Slovakia chaired a meeting of the Friends of Cohesion group in Brussels to coordinate positions ahead of negotiations on the EU’s next multiannual financial framework for 2028–2034. Representatives of 17 member states discussed priorities for the roughly two trillion euro budget before the upcoming European Council. State Secretary Marek Eštok stressed that a modern and ambitious EU budget must not come at the expense of cohesion policy and the common agricultural policy. Participants supported a balanced approach that responds to new challenges such as security, energy transition and migration.
