The opposition party PS claims the government is preparing changes to restrict voting from abroad in parliamentary elections. According to party leader Michal Šimečka, citizens living abroad could be required to vote in person at embassies instead of by post, as is currently allowed. PS argues the move would limit voting rights and suspects a political motive, noting that most of the 60,000 voters who cast ballots from abroad in 2023 supported opposition parties. Šimečka called on Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) and the government to deny the reports and refrain from amending election laws ahead of the next vote.
