The webumenia.sk platform, which presents an online catalogue of works of art, has faced hacker attacks in recent days, the Slovak National Gallery (SNG) reported on Thursday, adding that appropriate security measures were taken after suspicious activities were detected.
"The webumenia.sk service is once again available to the public as standard," said SNG.
The national gallery also rejected statements made in the media by opposition MP Dana Kleinert (PS) that the attack on SNG's digital infrastructure, including the Central Register of Works of Fine Art (CEDVU), threatened Slovakia's cultural heritage.
"As far as CEDVU is concerned, this database hasn't been affected by hacker attacks in any way. It's a separate information system that isn't connected to webumenia.sk," SNG emphasised in a press release. It considers the "alarmist" statements of the opposition MP to be politicisation aimed at damaging SNG's reputation.
The gallery gave assurances that experts are working intensively on the problem of hacker attacks. "CSITR security technicians from the Investment, Regional Development and Informatisation Ministry, a department dedicated to resolving cyber security incidents, are working together with experts from the SNG IT department to investigate the causes and remedy the consequences," it announced.
