The Czech Republic is considering inspiration from Slovakia’s state-supported rental housing scheme, particularly the reduced five-percent VAT applied to apartments in the system, Czech Industry Minister Karel Havlíček said in Bratislava. He also highlighted Slovakia’s public-private partnership projects as a model worth following. According to Havlíček, high housing prices are driven by strong demand, slow construction and expensive energy, and the solution lies in faster building and regulatory reform.
Energy security was also discussed during Havlíček’s meeting with Slovak parliamentary leaders. Both sides stressed the need for closer Czech-Slovak coordination within the EU, especially in energy policy and nuclear development. They agreed on the importance of joint efforts to strengthen regional energy stability and competitiveness.
