Slovakia Awaits Explanation on Suspended Recovery Plan Payment

Slovakia will fully cooperate with the European Commission over the delayed sixth payment from the Recovery and Resilience Plan but is waiting for an official explanation, said Education Minister Tomáš Drucker. He stressed that while the government is ready for bilateral talks, it will not accept a situation where all payments are frozen over concerns related to the Office for the Protection of Whistleblowers. According to Drucker, the government has so far received no formal clarification on why the payment was not included on the EU committee agenda.

The office was originally set to be dissolved in January 2026, but the Constitutional Court suspended the law, allowing it to continue operating. The European Commission has requested additional information from Slovakia regarding compliance.
