Prime Minister Robert Fico (SMER-SD) met Framatome CEO Grégoire Ponchon on Wednesday to discuss strategic Slovak–French cooperation in nuclear energy. The talks follow Fico’s recent meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron. Fico said Slovakia would welcome an agreement among major companies to bring the most modern and safest nuclear technology to the country, as it prepares a new nuclear power source. Discussions also covered diversifying nuclear fuel supplies and upgrading control and safety systems at the Mochovce and Jaslovské Bohunice plants. Fico stressed Slovakia’s ambition to become a leader in nuclear education and confirmed he plans to attend a nuclear forum in Paris in March.
