Slovakia is marking 33 years as a member of UNESCO, the UN agency for education, science and culture. Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár (SMER-SD) says the country has built a strong and respected reputation within the organisation. He noted that UNESCO’s wide mandate affects everyday life, from education and human rights to the protection of cultural heritage.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Slovakia’s membership has brought major international recognition, including eight World Heritage sites, nine elements of intangible cultural heritage, four biosphere reserves and one geopark, helping protect valuable sites and support sustainable regional development.
