Fico Criticizes EU Over Electricity Price Differences

Prime Minister Robert Fico has criticised the European Commission and the European Council for failing to address major electricity price differences across the European Union. Speaking in the Slovak parliament, he said countries like Slovakia have repeatedly raised concerns, questioning why a state that produces most of its electricity from nuclear and hydropower must pay high market prices.

Fico argued that the EU emissions trading system is a key driver of high energy costs and called for radical changes, such as a temporary suspension or a cap on emission allowance prices. He added that Slovakia and other countries plan to coordinate pressure ahead of a formal EU summit in March, aiming to secure concrete measures to lower electricity prices.
