Education Reform Draws Questions, Ministry Promises Talks

Slovakia’s biggest education reform in 20 years has raised concerns among some school leaders, which Education Minister Tomáš Drucker says is natural given its broad impact. About 500 principals and education workers criticised parts of the new legislation, but the ministry argues the changes were prepared with experts and professional organisations. Drucker stressed that dialogue is ongoing through working groups and nationwide consultations rather than individual talks with each school.

The ministry has already held explanatory workshops in nine cities with around 2,200 school leaders and plans more sessions in February and March. According to Drucker, many criticised measures build on existing practice and aim to increase transparency and fairness. He urged schools to wait for practical experience with the reforms, adding that the ministry remains open to feedback as changes are introduced gradually.
