Plenipotentiary for National Minorities Out of Office

Last week we brought the news of Lazslo Nagy, the Plenipotentiary for National Minorities handing in his resignation. Nagy claims he did so following the advice of the Most-Hid party which is focused on minority rights and which feels the government has been ignoring the plenipotentiary.

Parliament rejected the draft law on the use of languages of ethnic minorities which wanted to introduce dual-language signs at railway stations in ethnically-mixed areas. The Government has now officially approved Nagy’s resignation and temporarily changed the status of the post so that it can be managed, controlled and regulated by a person delegated by the Government Office head.
