Slovak Ministers Meet Their Czech Counterparts

Finance Minister Ladislav Kamenicky (Smer-SD) held talks on Friday with Czech Finance Minister Alena Schillerova on Slovakia's experience and challenges related to state-supported rental housing, which has drawn the interest of the new Czech government led by Andrej Babis. The finance ministers also discussed cash registers, which the Czech Republic plans to reintroduce, and they exchanged views on VAT. "I want relations with the Czech Republic, which have always been above standard, to firm up completely," said Kamenicky. Both countries are interested in closer cooperation within the Visegrad Four (V4).

Slovakia and the Czech Republic want to act in tandem in Brussels, not fearing to raise certain topics and to defend the interests of both states. Slovak Environment Minister Tomas Taraba (SNS nominee) stated this at a joint press conference with his Czech counterpart Petr Macinka and Czech government commissioner for climate policy and the European Green Deal Filip Turek in Prague on Friday. Taraba stressed that the two countries don't want to create conflicts but to debate constructively.

Culture Minister Martina Šimkovičová also met with her Czech counterpart Otto Klempíř. They discussed public media and collaboration in film production. Šimkovičová invited Klempíř to the opening event of Trenčín, the European capital of culture 2026.
