Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico (SMER-SD) has rejected claims by Politico that he raised concerns in Brussels about the mental state of US President Donald Trump. The magazine reported, citing anonymous diplomats, that Fico spoke critically about Trump after meeting him in Florida. Fico called the claims false and described them as outright lies.
He said he did not speak about his US visit during last week’s EU summit in Brussels, either formally or informally. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, no witnesses support Politico’s account. Fico said his January meeting with Trump at Mar-a-Lago focused on Ukraine, the European Union, and bilateral relations. He has previously described the meeting as respectful and positive.
Meanwhile, debate about the health of the 79-year-old US president continues. Trump has repeatedly denied any cognitive illness, saying this week he does not suffer from Alzheimer’s disease.
