President Seeks Clarification on Slovakia’s Invitation to Peace Council

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini has asked the Foreign Ministry to provide a full analysis of documents linked to an invitation for Slovakia to join the so-called Peace Council. He said any decision must be based on complete and accurate information, including the legal framework, financial costs and the constitutional approval process.

The President’s Office has requested access to all internal and external analyses, including potential risks. Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár (SMER-SD) said ministry experts are currently assessing both the options and risks. He added that the government supports peace initiatives but insists on respect for international law.

The Peace Council was presented by U.S. President Donald Trump at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Around 60 countries were invited, though the full list is not public. Among them are Russia, China, the European Commission, Poland and Australia, while France, the UK, Norway, Sweden and Slovenia have declined.
