Slovakia’s Children’s Helpline, Linka detskej istoty, is marking 30 years of operation. Since its launch in 1996, it has provided more than 3.5 million professional interventions for children and young people. It was the country’s first specialised helpline for youth.
Experts say the topics callers raise have changed over time. While issues like family problems, peer relations and bullying once dominated, mental health concerns are now more common. Children increasingly seek help for anxiety, depression, loneliness and online problems, including cyberbullying. The helpline is free, anonymous and available 24/7 at 116 111, by phone or online.
