PM: 850,000 Pupils Have Used State Sports Activity Grant

Since 2016, around 850,000 Slovak pupils have used a state contribution for physical activities such as ski or hiking trips, Prime Minister Robert Fico (SMER-SD) said on Monday. The scheme offers schools 150 euros per pupil and is open to students in the second stage of primary schools and the first year of secondary schools. According to the Prime Minister, the state has spent about 125 million euros on the programme.

Fico described the project as one of the most successful state initiatives, noting that activities are supervised by instructors and help children build basic skills. He also said the programme brings major benefits to tourism, generating an estimated 3.4 million overnight stays, mainly outside the main holiday season.
