Agriculture Minister Richard Takáč and his Czech counterpart Martin Šebestyán have voiced support for closer cooperation among agriculture ministers within the Visegrad Group. After talks in Voderady, they stressed the need to revise the future Common Agricultural Policy after 2028, calling for higher funding for agriculture.
Takáč warned that under current European Commission proposals, funding for Slovak agriculture could drop by up to 30 percent and reiterated his opposition to capping direct payments and excluding the food sector from the policy. Both ministers agreed on joint V4 priorities such as a stronger budget, simplification and greater self-sufficiency, and discussed the impact of imports from third countries. Takáč called for stricter monitoring of such imports, equal EU standards, and the creation of a special European fund to compensate farmers and food producers affected by them.
