Government Announces National Anti-Corruption Strategy

The objectives of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy of the Slovak Republic for 2026-2029 are based on four pillars - building and strengthening capacities, education and communication, managing corruption risks, and data collection and monitoring. This follows from the draft strategy, which, like its action plan, was approved by the government on Wednesday.

"The National Anti-Corruption Strategy is a comprehensive framework that aims to reduce the level of corruption, increase transparency and support ethical behavior in public administration. The vision of the strategy is to create a society in which corrupt practices will be eliminated and citizens will have trust in the institutions that represent them," said the Government Office (GO) of the Slovak Republic, which submitted the proposal. They emphasized that building citizens' trust in individual central government bodies does not only depend on their leaders, but on every employee who must pay attention to the basic principles and objectives of the strategy.

Within the framework of the attached action plan, in the area of building and strengthening capacities, it is recommended to establish cooperation with higher territorial units and, within their organizational structure, to entrust a person responsible for managing anti-corruption policy and monitoring its implementation.

During 2026, the Central Government of the Slovak Republic should also create an e-learning program for preventing and combating corruption for anti-corruption coordinators and employees of central government bodies (ÚOŠS). In the case of measures aimed at managing corruption risks, the action plan recommends adopting an internal management act regulating the anti-corruption policy at individual ÚOŠS by mid-2026.

The Central Committee recalled that the strategy was developed in view of the expiration of the period for which the Anti-Corruption Policy of the Slovak Republic for 2019 - 2023 was approved by a government resolution, and the need to respond to new challenges in the area of corruption prevention and the fight against corruption.
