Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico (SMER-SD) has spoken by phone with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, focusing on Europe’s current challenges and bilateral ties. Fico said he will send an open letter on Tuesday to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, copying all EU leaders.
According to Fico, the European Union is not taken seriously by global leaders, which he blamed on what he called unrealistic climate targets and a failed migration policy. He said he proposed several solutions to Chancellor Merz and hopes he will visit Slovakia soon. Fico also discussed his recent talks in Florida with US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, touching on Ukraine, the EU and transatlantic relations.
