Slovak State Secretary Marek Eštok met with his Irish counterpart Thomas Byrne for bilateral political consultations in Bratislava. Both sides confirmed the very good state of relations, built on EU and eurozone membership and shared values. They highlighted growing economic ties, with mutual trade nearly doubling in five years to over 700 million euros. Interest was expressed in deeper cooperation between companies and better air connectivity.
Key topics also included European competitiveness, illegal migration, EU enlargement and the long-term EU budget. The partners agreed on the need to strengthen Europe’s economy and address high energy prices. They also discussed people-to-people contacts and education exchanges. Around 15,000 Slovaks currently live in Ireland, contributing to the local economy and strengthening bilateral ties.
