Slovak MPs will meet next week for their first parliamentary session of the year, preceded by a coalition council meeting. Coalition leaders announced that the Slovak National Party will withdraw its proposal to reduce penalties for extremism. Instead, a joint amendment to the Criminal Code is expected after talks with the Justice Ministry.
The opposition criticised the move, accusing the coalition of favouring a criminally charged extremist. As a result, parliament will not debate the Criminal Code next week. The session will instead open with proposed changes to parliamentary rules, which the opposition says are meant to curb its rights.
