Slovak hurdler Ema Zapletalová has been named Sportsperson of the Year. She claimed the top honour after a standout season that included a bronze medal at the World Athletics Championships in the 400 metres hurdles and a new Slovak national record.
Footballer Stanislav Lobotka finished second in the journalists’ vote, with his national team colleague Dávid Hancko in third place. The award for Best Team went to Slovakia’s under-17 women’s handball side, who won the European title. Among Paralympians, the top award went to shooter Veronika Vadovičová. The annual awards were presented at a gala evening in Bratislava.
