The Ministry of Education has purchased 20,000 licences of the educational tool ChatGPT-Edu for future teachers at a cost of around 1.57 million euros, Education Minister Tomáš Drucker announced. He described the move as a strategic partnership with OpenAI, aimed at ensuring that future teachers gain practical experience with artificial intelligence and learn to use it critically and ethically in their work.
The licences will be available free of charge to university lecturers and teaching students. According to Minister Drucker, the educational version prioritizes data protection and security, and user data will not be used to train AI models. The licences are currently secured for one year, with plans to continue funding and gradually extend access to other universities and later also to regional schools.
