The Slovak Towns and Villages Association (ZMOS) plans to intensify cooperation with Czech partners in 2026, ZMOS chairman Jozef Božik said on TASR TV.
ZMOS aims to sign its first bilateral agreements with Czech local government associations, citing shared experience and opportunities for joint projects. Božik said closer Czech-Slovak cooperation is important both practically and in terms of shared values.
Despite this focus, ZMOS’s main priority remains defending the interests of Slovak towns and municipalities at the national level. This year, the association plans to push for changes to the constitutional debt brake law, seeking to exempt local governments from strict sanctions, arguing that municipalities contribute only minimally to Slovakia’s overall public debt.
