Slovaks working in the Czech Republic earn significantly higher wages than those employed in Slovakia, with their average income now exceeding 2,000 EUR a month. This is not only more than the Slovak average wage, which remains around 1,600 EUR, but also higher than the earnings of Czech workers themselves.
Recent changes to the taxation of labour in Slovakia, including higher health contributions, are expected to further reduce motivation for higher earners to stay. At the same time, experts warn that Slovakia is becoming less attractive to foreign talent due to a combination of relatively low wages, high living costs, expensive housing and heavy bureaucracy.
