Slovakia Plans to Open Key Motorway Sections in 2026

According to the National Motorway Company, several major highway projects are set to move forward this year and early 2027. The company plans to open the new D1 motorway section between Hubová and Ivachnová, which is nearing completion, as well as the widened D1 Bratislava–Triblavina section together with the D1/D4 interchange.

The nearly 15-kilometre bypass of Ružomberok, including the 3.6-kilometre Čebrať tunnel, has been delayed due to a new landslide at the construction site. Instead of late 2025, the transport ministry now expects completion in the first half of 2026.

Construction will also intensify on the D3 motorway in the Kysuce region, where work is set to begin on all three remaining sections this year.
