Slovakia Monitors Deadly Fire in Swiss Ski Resort

The Slovak Foreign Ministry is closely monitoring the situation following a deadly fire at a bar in a Swiss ski resort, where around 40 people were killed and more than 115 injured during New Year celebrations. The Slovak Embassy in Bern remains in contact with local authorities, while the nationalities of the victims have not yet been officially confirmed due to the ongoing investigation and identification process. The ministry said it is ready to assist Slovak citizens if needed and urged anyone affected to follow the instructions of rescue services or contact Slovakia’s international crisis hotline.

Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár expressed condolences to the families of the victims and solidarity with the Swiss people. Swiss authorities confirmed that the fire broke out in the Le Constellation bar, that victims include several nationalities, and that while the cause remains unknown, investigators currently rule out a deliberate attack.
