Members of the Slovak Armed Forces marked the 33rd anniversary of the Slovak Republic with 21 ceremonial artillery salutes fired from the Danube riverbank in Bratislava. The salutes were carried out by the 5th Artillery Regiment using 122-millimeter howitzers, in line with state protocol for major national occasions. President Peter Pellegrini said Slovakia has proven its viability over the past three decades, but now faces major challenges linked to geopolitical turbulence and Europe’s economic slowdown. He stressed the importance of maintaining economic growth and called for greater solidarity, respect, and mutual understanding in society. Ceremonial salutes traditionally accompany key state holidays and major protocol events, including presidential inaugurations.
