Slovakia’s Defence Minister Robert Kaliňák (SMER-SD) says continuity will be the key priority when appointing a new Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. With the term of the current chief, General Daniel Zmeko, ending in May, Kaliňák plans to choose his successor from among experienced Slovak generals. The name is expected to be presented to the President in the coming months, with a gradual handover starting in late winter. General Zmeko has led the armed forces since 2018 and cannot seek another term under the law.
