Christmas Holidays Bring Surge in Emergency Calls

The Christmas holidays are among the busiest periods of the year for rescue services. On Christmas Day alone, ambulance crews in Slovakia responded to nearly 1,600 call-outs, while emergency line operators handled more than 2,000 calls in total.

The highest number of ambulance dispatches was recorded in the Košice Region in eastern Slovakia, with 290 interventions, while the fewest were reported in the Trnava Region in the west, with 162.

The most common reasons for interventions included heart-related problems associated with high blood pressure, breathing difficulties, digestive issues caused by heavy holiday meals, and accidents or falls—often linked to alcohol consumption.
