Slovak President Peter Pellegrini has visited members of the Slovak minority in Bački Petrovac, northern Serbia. He was welcomed by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, local leaders, and children in traditional Slovak folk costumes. The two presidents met representatives of the Slovak community in Vojvodina and discussed infrastructure, education and cultural facilities.
Pellegrini confirmed plans to build a new Slovak cultural centre in Vojvodina, worth around seven million euros, to be funded by the Serbian government. He said many Slovaks told him their rights are guaranteed by Serbia’s constitution and that they feel fully integrated. However, some community members disagree and protested during President Vučić’s visit.
