Slovakia and the United States Seek to Deepen Strategic Cooperation

Slovakia and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations following talks held on 17December between Slovak State Secretary Marek Eštok and Daniel Lawton, a senior official at the U.S. State Department. Both sides praised the positive momentum in relations and agreed to further deepen cooperation, particularly in energy, defence, economic affairs, and security. Eštok highlighted the importance of the United States as a key global partner for Slovakia, pointing to flagship projects such as the intergovernmental agreement on building a new nuclear power source by the U.S. company Westinghouse. He also underlined the value of high-level political dialogue, recalling the recent invitation for Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to visit U.S. President Donald Trump. Slovakia expressed interest in launching a Slovak–U.S. Strategic Dialogue in 2026 to set a framework for future cooperation. The talks also covered the situation in Ukraine, with Slovakia confirming continued humanitarian, non-military, and energy support, while welcoming U.S. diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.
