The latest Eurobarometer survey published on Tuesday shows that 54 percent of Slovaks trust the European Union, which is more than the European average (48 percent). Compared to the spring 2025 survey, this is an increase of two percentage points.
According to the main findings of the autumn Eurobarometer, the majority of Slovaks (87 percent) are generally satisfied with their lives. The satisfaction of the respondents is at a similar level to that reported in the spring 2025 survey and is comparable to the EU average (86 percent).
The European Central Bank (58 percent), the European Commission and the European Council (both 51 percent) enjoy the greatest trust. Half of Slovaks trust the European Parliament (50 percent). Of the selected institutions in Slovakia, the highest levels of trust are in healthcare and medical personnel (72 percent), the army (66 percent), regional or local public bodies (65 percent) and the police (57 percent).
On the opposite side of the trustworthiness scale are the courts and legal system (39 percent), the government (26 percent), the parliament (24 percent) and political parties (21 percent). The majority of residents (59 percent) are dissatisfied with how democracy works in Slovakia (two percentage points more than in spring 2025). The share of satisfied residents is 41 percent (two percentage points less than in spring 2025). The average for the European '27' is 54 percent satisfied and 45 percent dissatisfied.
In terms of common policies, the greatest consensus among the residents of Slovakia is on supporting the free movement of EU citizens who can live, work, study and do business in the Union (90 percent). More than 80 percent of the population also supports a common European Economic and Monetary Union with a single currency, the euro (84 percent) and a common strategy to increase competitiveness in the EU (83 percent).
