Cases of acute respiratory illnesses rose in Slovakia last week, according to the Public Health Authority. Compared to the previous week, overall respiratory infections increased by nearly 13 percent. Flu and flu-like illnesses saw an even sharper rise, up by more than 50 percent. Almost 49,000 cases were reported, with the highest numbers in the Bratislava Region and among children under five. Due to the growing spread of infections, dozens of kindergartens and primary schools were temporarily closed. Several hospitals have also introduced visitor bans as a precaution.
