One of the victims of Sunday's attack on Bondi Beach in Sydney is a Slovak woman, former President Zuzana Čaputová stated. According to her, the victim was her close friend. The SITA news agency specified that it was 82-year-old community member Marika Pogany, who lived in Australia.
In response to Sunday's attack, the Consulate General of the Slovak Republic in Sydney stated that it is in direct contact with the city police, as well as with the local Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Foreign Ministry has not yet confirmed the information provided by the Jewish community in Komárno, southern Slovakia, regarding the presence of a Slovak citizen among the victims of the terrorist attack in Sydney. The Ministry remains in direct contact with Australian authorities through the Consulate in Sydney and the Embassy in Canberra.
President Peter Pellegrini condemned the spread of hatred on social media.
