The Association of Slovak Hospitals (ANS) has raised concerns over worsening conditions in hospitals, warning that layoffs and department closures could spread beyond the University Hospital with Polyclinic Milosrdní bratia in Bratislava. The situation is linked to last year’s agreement between the Health Ministry and the Medical Trade Union (LOZ), which ANS says has driven up wage costs unsustainably. The hospital plans to lay off around 90 employees as part of a reprofiling process aimed at restructuring care and ensuring financial viability. ANS urges the government to implement long-term solutions to stabilize the healthcare system. The association stresses that many hospitals cannot afford to accumulate debt and are facing similar pressures due to underfunding and rising expenses. TASR is seeking responses from the Health Ministry and LOZ regarding the issue.
