President Peter Pellegrini hosted Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Monday, marking the first official visit of an Azerbaijani head of state to Slovakia. Both leaders described Slovakia and Azerbaijan as “friendly nations and strategic partners.”
They agreed to deepen cooperation in defence, energy, technology, tourism and culture. Pellegrini said Azerbaijan can help diversify Slovakia’s oil and gas supplies, while Aliyev stressed his country is ready to deliver any amount of gas Slovakia may need.
Talks also covered Slovak investments, defence industry projects and a possible direct flight between Bratislava and Baku. During his two-day visit, Aliyev will also meet Prime Minister Robert Fico (SMER-SD) and Parliamentary Speaker Richard Raši (HLAS-SD).
