Ukraine Reopens Consulate in Prešov

Foreign Affairs Minister Juraj Blanár (Smer) and his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha, officially opened the Consulate General of Ukraine in Prešov on Friday, unveiling its plaque. “The Ukrainian nation is defending shared European values. This is also recognition of Slovakia’s role, the role of your country,” Sybiha said, noting that around 40,000 Ukrainian citizens live in the Prešov Region.

Blanár expressed solidarity with the suffering Ukrainian people and assured the Ukrainian minister that Slovakia will continue to support efforts to alleviate their hardships.

The Consulate General in Prešov had operated until 2014. Its reopening, Blanár added, demonstrates Ukraine’s commitment to caring for its citizens in Slovakia, as well as Slovakia’s commitment to providing good conditions for Ukrainians residing in the country.
