Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár met with counterparts from Kyrgyzstan and Georgia during the OSCE Ministerial Council in Vienna, expressing Slovakia’s interest in strengthening political and economic ties. He described Interhelpo as a “good historical basis” for cooperation with Kyrgyzstan and renewed invitations for Kyrgyz leaders to visit Slovakia. With Georgia’s foreign minister, he called for EU dialogue without double standards, saying Georgia often faces a double meter, and stressed that Slovakia acts as its advocate after Brussels froze accession talks. In Brussels, Blanár also met Hungary’s Péter Szijjártó to discuss the REPowerEU plan, which bans Russian LNG and pipeline gas imports by 2027. He argued the proposal harms Slovakia, Hungary, and EU competitiveness, adding that both countries may jointly appeal to the EU Court of Justice to defend our national interests. Blanár said affordable gas is key for the economy and family budgets, and claimed to use every option to stop such harmful initiatives.
