Slovakia plans to apply for European Union funds for infrastructure projects through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and military mobility under the EU budget after 2027, announced State Secretary Denisa Žiláková in Brussels. The new EU financial framework for 2028–2034 doubles allocations for Connecting Europe Facility, with ten times more funding proposed for military mobility. Žiláková highlighted that the funds could support highways, roads, and railways, which Slovakia urgently needs. According to her, the bridges, many in poor condition, are likely to be included because military vehicles rely on them. The EU also presented an action plan for high-speed rail, offering Slovakia a chance to connect to trains running over 200 km/h. Ministers welcomed the proposal, which includes simplifications like unified ticket system across Europe’s public transport.
