Female representatives of opposition parties Progressive Slovakia, Slovensko, Za ľudí, KDH, SaS, and the extra-parliamentary Demokrati have sent a letter to Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD), urging him to clearly condemn the crimes of Jeffrey Epstein and address the recently revealed friendly communications between Epstein and Fico’s advisor, former foreign minister Miroslav Lajčák.
They criticised Fico’s silence, stating it ignores victims of sexual violence and undermines the moral standards protecting women and children. The politicians stressed that someone who maintained friendly contact with a convicted sexual offender should not serve as a government advisor, especially given Lajčák’s high public offices and the well-known nature of Epstein’s crimes at the time.
They are also launching a petition to rally broader public and political support.
The US House Oversight Committee recently released documents allegedly showing email exchanges between Lajčák and Epstein. Lajčák told TASR the communication was purely social and part of his diplomatic duties. Despite calls from SNS and opposition parties to end cooperation with Lajčák, Fico said last week he sees no reason to dismiss him.
