Prime Minister Robert Fico (SMER-SD) says he will not dismiss his adviser and former foreign minister Miroslav Lajčák, despite calls from coalition partner Slovak National Party (SNS) and the opposition. They demanded his removal after recently published documents showed past email communication between Lajčák and the late US financier Jeffrey Epstein, convicted of sex offences.
Fico said he reviewed all available information and found “nothing that would force” him to act. He stressed Lajčák’s strong diplomatic reputation and said Slovakia can benefit from his experience and contacts. SNS leader Andrej Danko said he respects the decision but will not enter the Government Office while Lajčák remains an adviser. Lajčák maintains that any contact with Epstein was purely social and part of routine diplomatic duties.
