Slovakia marked 25 years since signing its Basic Treaty with the Holy See on Monday. Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár (SMER-SD) said the agreement provides a stable legal framework for relations between Slovakia and the Catholic Church, while also serving as a symbol of mutual respect and trust.
Blanár stressed that the Holy See is an important partner both spiritually and diplomatically, linked to Slovakia by shared values of solidarity, peace, dialogue and a long tradition of faith. He noted that the treaty supports cooperation in public, cultural and spiritual life and continues a dialogue rooted in the legacy of Saints Cyril and Methodius. The anniversary was commemorated with a special mass in Rome.
