Slovakia’s Deputy Minister of Investments, Richard Maraček, met in Brussels with European Commission directors for health and research, innovation, and development. He said the Commission praised Slovakia’s investment efforts in innovation and discussed plans for a new dual-purpose military and civil hospital in Prešov that is set to open in 2029 to serve eastern Slovakia.
EU funds and the recovery plan will be carefully allocated to clearly separate civil and military investments. According to Maraček, strong border regions are a priority for Europe, and these investments aim to improve infrastructure and quality of life.
In discussions with the Commission’s research and innovation directors, Maraček highlighted Slovakia’s low ranking in EU innovation and the country’s reliance on assembly-based industries, especially those in the automotive sector. He said Slovakia plans to strenghten funding for research, development, and innovation.
