On Friday, the 21st of November, Wizz Air launched a domestic route connecting Bratislava and Košice with the first ceremonial flight with 97% occupancy. The route is operated nine times a week with an Airbus A321, operated by Wizz Air as the winner of a public tender. The air connection between Bratislava and Košice, according to the airport and the carrier, significantly shortens the travel time between western and eastern Slovakia which could support business trips, commuting and traveling among others. There are flights every day of the week, twice a day on Monday and Friday, the departure times during the weekends differ. Prime Minister Robert Fico stated at a press conference on Friday that an increase in the number of flights is likely.
