President Peter Pellegrini on Wednesday accepted the resignation of Vice-premier for the Recovery Plan and the Knowledge-based Economy Peter Kmec (Hlas-SD). Kmec stepped down following opposition criticism of controversial research and development funding results, which triggered several criminal complaints. He rejected the accusations.
Education Minister Tomáš Drucker (Hlas-SD) has been temporarily tasked with managing the vice-premier’s office until a new nominee is announced. Hlas-SD leader and Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok called this a technical interim solution and said the successor should be named soon. He praised Drucker’s managerial experience and thanked Kmec for his work, noting he helped prevent losses from the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
Drucker stressed that decisions on the disputed calls were not made by Kmec alone, as multiple officials are responsible for the processes.
