EU Parliament Backs 90 Percent Emissions Cut

The Climate Coalition welcomed the European Parliament’s support for cutting net greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040 and urged Slovakia to back EU climate solutions. EU ministers recently agreed on the proposal, including a one-year delay for the ETS 2 system, and the European Parliament approved it on Thursday. Slovak Environment Minister Tomáš Taraba and other V4 ministers opposed the ambitious target, favoring a lower goal. The coalition stressed that emission reductions are crucial for improving quality of life and transitioning to renewable, energy-efficient economies.
