Slovakia Launches Christmas Gift Drive for Children in Kherson, Ukraine

Slovakia has launched a Christmas collection of 5,000 gifts for children in Kherson, Ukraine. People can contribute by bringing a package or making a financial donation until December 3. The organizers aim to bring joy to the children, boost their self-confidence, and restore their dignity.

The initiative seeks to provide new, unused gifts for every child in Kherson. “The streets in Kherson are empty because the Russians shoot at anyone they see, whether woman or child. Children live in constant fear of airstrikes and only have what they could take when fleeing their homes… We want this year’s Christmas to be different—all children will receive their own new gift so they know we haven’t forgotten them,” said project initiator Monika Kozelová.

The project is supported by Ukrainian Ambassador Myroslav Myronovich Kastran, and the mayor of Bratislava’s Ružinov district, Martin Chren, also endorsed the initiative. “Kherson is our sister city, and that is why we want to help. Kherson was once larger than Bratislava, and today it has as many residents as our district,” Chren said.
