The parliamentary inspection at the Agricultural Payments Agency has sparked political tension. Opposition MPs say the agency’s review of EU-funded guesthouse projects was only formal and that several key questions about misuse of funds remain unanswered. The agency confirmed it checked 53 guesthouses and found irregularities in nine of them — four contracts may be cancelled, and six cases are under criminal investigation. Agriculture Minister Richard Takáč (Smer-SD) called the opposition visit pure politicking, saying the agency was transparent and fully cooperative with prosecutors and EU investigators. Opposition lawmakers, however, argue that the agency ignored whether the facilities actually operate as guesthouses or pay local accommodation taxes. They’ve now requested more data and documents, insisting deeper checks could uncover further violations.
