House Chair Meets New British Ambassador

The Chairman of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, Richard Raši, on Tuesday received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Slovak Republic, H.E. Mr. Bilal Zahid. This was the first official meeting after the new British Ambassador presented his credentials to the President of the Slovak Republic.

The key topic of the meeting was the development of interparliamentary cooperation. "I personally advocate the development of dialogue at the interparliamentary level and the strengthening of parliamentary diplomacy," said Raši.

"For this reason, I will visit London in a few days, where I will hold talks with the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, as well as with the Speaker of the House of Lords, Lord McFall of Alcluith. This is a great opportunity to strengthen our cooperation and exchange experiences, as the history of your parliamentarism has a centuries-old tradition," he added.

The topic of the conversation was also economic diplomacy and trade relations. Raši recalled that the United Kingdom is the 6th most important trading partner for Slovakia and the mutual trade turnover reached a historical maximum of EUR 6.23 billion in 2024.
